K-Dramas are a unique form of television drama originating from South Korea. These dramas typically feature romance, mystery, and suspense storylines set in contemporary times. The origins of K-Drama can be traced back to 1967 when a tv station in South Korea began airing Japanese dramas. In the early 1990s, South Korean producers began producing their own versions of popular Korean soap operas. However, it was not until 2003 that K-Drama became a widespread phenomenon with the release of the hit series “Sungkyunkwan Scandal”. Since then, K-Drama has become one of the most popular genres in South Korea and has even been exported to countries such as China and Japan.
Today, there are over 100 officially recognized K-Dramas spanning a wide range of genres including action, comedy, family, melodrama and period pieces.
